What Macie did in NYC this summer

Macie had an amazing time in New York this summer.  She had auditioned for a summer intensive program with Joffrey Ballet School and was invited to participate in July.  Todd went with her for the entire two weeks.  I was able to get away for a few days the second week and I was able to spend an entire day observing.  Here are a few pictures from her ballet class.

I was fascinated watching through the door.  I rarely get to see her do barre work.  It is quite the workout.  Those poor girls worked 7 hours a day in a beautiful studio with a gigantic skylight – and no air conditioning!!!  Man – it was hot.  It happened to be during a heat wave.  The temps were in the high 90’s.

It’s hard not to brag, but – holy long legs, batman!  She does things like this and looks like it’s nothing.  Seemingly effortless.  She received many of the instructors praises due to her flexibility and ability to turn, kick and split to the left and to the right.  (Many thanks to her teachers here at home for making it a priority to learn the importance of being able to do that.)  Macie was the only girl in her group who could do everything equally as well to the right and the left.

Funny Story – Macie was drinking water and gatorade like it was going out of style.  One night at dinner, she asked for an orange juice.  It was in a bottle and she was drinking it so fast.  Well, the mouth of the OJ bottle was pretty big and she had it around her entire mouth.  It caused a deep suction and gave her a hickey on her top lip that looked like a moustache!!  It was so funny, because she did it the night before her final performance.  She was mortified!  She wouldn’t smile at me at all and didn’t want me to take any photos.  Well the one above was pretty cute, but this next one is my favorite…

All her little friends did the same thing!  It was so cute.  I know she exchanged numbers with these girls, and I encourage her to keep in touch.  Maybe they can meet up every summer during intensive time!
