Oh. My. Word! I have another sweet baby in the double digits. tear.
Cole, at age ten you are still obsessed with Cowboy boots. You wear them every Sunday with your jeans, western belt and cowboy hat. Your Sunday School teachers have come to expect you this way every week. It is sweet, because Cy wants to be like you and he wears boots every day now, too.
You have had an amazing fourth grade year at school, too. In fact, you have become quite the math extraordinaire. You participated in the PSIA regional competition (today) in Number Sense and general Mathematics. You placed third overall for Number Sense and second over all in Mathematics – qualifying you for the state competition at TCU (following along in your big brother’s footsteps). You have also been pulled out of your regular math classes this year and given supplemental fifth grade math instruction. Your teachers recommended that you take a fifth grade benchmark before our state testing days to determine if you should go ahead and take the fifth grade STAAR. You had to make a 90% or better on the benchmark – you did! And because of that you took the fifth grade standardized test and scored a…100%! Can you believe that? Now, you will be taking sixth grade math next year (as a fifth grader). We are SO proud.
You are learning a lot about how to be a young man and are exhibiting some newfound maturity on occasion. There are some times where making the right choice in behavior or spoken word are still hard, but you are realizing your mistakes and making strong efforts to change your daily actions. Sometimes that is tough, but you are persevering and growing. Your sweet disposition and tender heart shine through most of the time. Your sense of humor is evident 100% of the day, as well.
Cole – you make it easy for us to love you and it is a privilege for your dad and I to call you son. We thank God every day for you and look forward to all the ways you will change and grow into the man God has planned.
