We finally came to the disheartening conclusion that Cole was going to need his tonsils removed if he was ever going to quit getting strep throat. We assumed this would happen, we just really hoped it wouldn’t be necessary. We had the surgery on the Wednesday before spring break to give him the longest possible recovery time at home. He is required to be off the playground and out of PE for THREE WEEKS!! That will be difficult.
He behaved well prior to surgery. We had to wait in the pre-op room for a while. They gave him a toy that was full of beads and he had to shake it to find certain items. He did that for a long time. Then he got goofy…
The first picture is him pretending he had already had the anesthesia and wondering if that would be an accurate portrayal. The second one made me laugh. He asked if he could wear that in the surgical room – they said yes.
This is the only post-op picture I took. He was so sweet and did great coming out of the anesthesia. He was eating the popsicle and he kept missing his mouth. We were trying hard not to laugh, it seems mean to laugh when someone just had surgery, but it was funny. He was amazing. We arrived home just before lunch and the silly boy actually wanted to eat!! I couldn’t believe it. He had no diet restrictions, we just didn’t expect him to want to eat food. He had Ramen noodles. Such a tough kid – all the doctors and nurses said so! We love you, baby, and we hope this sore throat is the end of strep throat for you!
