2011 Pinewood Derby

January is Derby time around these parts. This is Cameron's last official year participating in the Pinewood Derby. This year we had a harder time getting the car done. We have had a busy December with new baby, then a busy January with a hospitalization/surgery/recovery for me. Todd's dad has helped Cameron with his car since we bombed the first year - only he has been ill this January - so it was back in our hands.
We told Cameron that auto engineering is not our forte and that we would help him in an was we could - but we are not gifted in the Derby Arena! My dad helped him get the weights on - but Cameron did everything else by himself. He seemed pretty proud.
Here is the cars from his den. The squirrel car was very cute and creative. Kyle has a great sense of humor.
A sneak peek at the trophy table. Cameron covets this area. He is always hovering over it when his car is not racing.
A picture of the boys in his den (minus one). They are all so grown up now - crossing over into Boy Scouts in March - sniff, sniff.
Sitting at the end of the track watching his car come down - hoping he will win.
Up close and personal look at his vehicle before his official race.
Each car gets a try in each lane. This was the first race and Cameron's car is in the far left. From the beginning - they are neck and neck.
This is the third race. Cameron's car is the second from the right. Unfortunately he came in last. every. time. I felt so bad for him. He was so upset.
But - we talked and he was better. He said he understood it wasn't about getting a trophy - but couldn't he get a trophy just once in four years?? He decided it was ok because next year (when Cole is in scouts) he can enter in the sibling race. He is already planning his next car.
Hoping to win a trophy off this awesome table.
A
