Scout Sunday

Today was National Scout Sunday. All scouts (boy, girl, campfire, venture) are encouraged to wear their uniforms to their church. Some churches have recognition ceremonies. Ours happens to be one of those churches.

All the kids get to come to the front of the church and have their name called. They receive a special Scout Sunday patch for their uniform.
Macie and Cameron love this day.

I am glad they are proud of being a scout. They are learning values that coincide with the values they are learning at church. It is nice to have extra teaching in that area!

In addition to the patch, some kids get recognized for accomplishments - religious medals, Eagle Scout, things of that nature. Well, Cameron got called to the podium for a special recognition. We did not know this was going to happen.

Last November, Cameron found a wallet in the church parking lot. He turned it in to one of the elders at church. They were, in turn, able to find the owner and return the wallet - it was not a member of our church. He was very thankful and Cameron was rewarded with an article in the church bulletin telling the story. He was so excited about that because they took his picture! So - this morning during Scout Sunday - they awarded him a Bible from the Boy Scout 100th Jamboree. He was so excited. They told the same story and told him the church was proud of him for deciding to do the right thing! It was so special and such a surprise!

I am so proud of my kids and the decisions they are making as they grow. I pray they continue to "Do the Right Thing' in all they choose in life! I can't wait for all the future Scout Sundays and the addition of the younger boys!

All of us in uniform (yes - the leaders are even encouraged to wear theirs.) I feel silly in a Boy Scout uniform, but if it makes Cameron happy, it makes me happy!
